3Pirouetten, 2024 Summer
Rainer Berger, Eftihia Arkoudis, and Daniela Mars re-unite for a summer tour in Germany and Luxembourg. The concerts will feature contemporary works by German composer and flautist Rainer Berger alongside works composed by J.S. Bach and arranged for flute trio by Rainer Berger in an instrumentation that uses the flute, alto, bass, and contrabass flute.

Pursuing Music As a Career
“Pursuing Music As a Career: Opportunities for West Virginia Students Beyond the Stage”
On Friday, March 1, West Virginia University faculty and staff, Emily Lambert, Eftihia Arkoudis, Alan Hankers, and Josh Swiger, will be presenting a joint session at the West Virginia Music Educators Association (WVMEA) Conference in Charleston, WV.
The presenters will be discussing a wide variety of music careers to help teachers of high school students inform and guide students looking for a degree and/or career that is not solely focused on performing or teaching.
2024 Slippery Rock University Honors Flute Ensemble
The Slippery Rock University Music Department is proud to host the 8th Annual Honors Flute Ensemble for outstanding flute students on February 24 and 25, 2024.
3Pirouetten: Special Performance
The flute trio 3Pirouetten has been invited to perform during the biannual and prestigious award ceremony of the Walter Hasenclever Preis in Aachen, Germany. The Walter Hasenclever Literature Prize helps keep alive the legacy and significance of Walter Hasenclever in German literature and supports contemporary authors who write in his spirit. In 2023, the recipient of the prize is Norbert Sheuer. Rainer Berger, Eftihia Arkoudis, and Daniela Mars will be performing original works by German composer and flautist Rainer Berger for flute, alto, bass, and contrabass flute.

CRS Presents BETA Quartet: Where We Come From
CRS presents the award-winning contemporary flute ensemble BETA Quartet, who will perform a program featuring the world premiere of "Where We Come From" by Detroit-based saxophonist/composer Marcus Elliot, a piece commissioned by BETA Quartet. "Where We Come From" is a 4-movement work that centers around the Divine Feminine theme and demonstrates the power, beauty, and grace that embodies female energy and Mother Nature.
Described as "chamber music at its finest" by Kenneth Tse and "unique and virtuosic" by Barbara Siesel, BETA Quartet is an award-winning ensemble comprised of flutists Eftihia Arkoudis, Tatiana Cassetta, Alyssa Schwartz, and Meg Brennan.
The concert will take place in the award-winning White Room at CRS. Please note that the venue is accessible only via a flight of stairs and is not wheelchair accessible. Proof of vaccination is not required but the wearing of masks is encouraged. If not sold out, tickets will also be available at the door for cash only.
Marcus Elliot is a saxophonist, composer, improviser, and educator based in Detroit, Michigan. Marcus is a 2020 Kresge Artist Fellow, awarded by Kresge Arts in Detroit. He is the current director of the University of Michigan's Creative Arts Orchestra. His compositions and improvisations have been described by the New York Times as "convincing and confident, evolved in touch and tone...", and the Detroit Free Press has said, "Marcus Elliot represents next generation of jazz". Elliot leads and co-leads many different Detroit based bands including the Marcus Elliot Quartet, Clockwork, Balance, Beyond Rebellious, and Lanula. Elliot performs in the Shigeto Live Ensemble. He is a Fellow of the Geri Allen Gathering Orchestra. He co-founded the nonprofit Polyfold Musical Arts Collective. Elliot is the director of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra's Civic Jazz Ensembles. Elliot received his master's degree in improvisation from the University of Michigan.

CRS (CENTER FOR REMEMBERING & SHARING) is a spiritual healing and art center founded in 2004 by the writer/lecturer/spiritual counselor Yasuko Kasaki and artist Christopher Pelham. Our mission is guided by A Course in Miracles (ACIM). ACIM says that recognizing that you and your brother are actually one is the only way to experience peace. The mission of CRS is to promote the awareness that limitless creativity lives within each of us. We train minds to recognize the light in themselves and others and provide them opportunities to share their inner vision through the healing and creative arts. WVU Chamber Players Performance
The WVU Chamber Players, made of up of the School of Music's outstanding performing faculty, presents this concert of two works: Prokofiev's "Quintet Op 39," for oboe, clarinet, violin, viola, double bass and Kurt Weill's "Little ThreePenny Music," a setting for instruments of the portions of Weill's "Threepenny Opera," which includes the famous "Mack the Knife!”

International Low Flutes Festival: Latin American Music for Alto and Bass
Join Colombia-based flutist, Carmen Marulanda, in an interactive workshop exploring musically stimulating new resources for low flute players. Carmen will introduce her practice books, Traversuras for Flute and Piano + Play-Along Collection published by Liliflute Music; a book series that provides progressive work on sound, intonation, and phrasing.
Chamber Music Recital
Dr. Eftihia Arkoudis has been invited to perform as a guest artist for the Music at Penn Alps Summer Series in Grantsville, MD. The highlight of the recital will be the world premiere of a work commissioned by Music at Penn Alps and dedicated to Dr. Arkoudis as part of the 4th Annual Music at Penn Alps Chamber Music Commission. Composer Mr. Zach Gulaboff Davis has been named the winner of the chamber music commission competition and is partnering with Dr. Arkoudis to create a work for flute, bassoon, and piano. Mr. Gulaboff Davis is also a winner of the 2020 Flute New Music Consortium Composition Competition.

A Life in Music: Celebrating Composer Dr. David Taddie
A recital celebrating the career of WVU School of Music Professor David Taddie will be held on Wednesday, April 13, at 8 p.m. in the Falbo Theatre at the Canady Creative Arts Center. The concert will feature original works composed in the time span of Taddie's 30 year career, including two world premieres, performed by WVU faculty, alumni, and guest artists.
I have the honor of participating in the world premiere of “Ghost House (Robert Forst)” for mezzo-soprano and chamber ensemble and “Category 5 (Echoes)” for live electronics, violin, flute, alto flute, and piccolo.
Compassion Concert for ICU Workers
BETA Quartet will be premiering 20 new fanfares dedicated to all ICU workers around the world. We will be partnering with the Society of Critical Care Medicine and will be accepting donations, 100% of which will go to SCCM. The event is sponsored by Fairmont State University and Jon Cummings. Double-bassist and composer Konstantinos Sifakis and flutist Eftihia Arkoudis re-unite this summer in Northern Greece to record Inexplicable for flute and double-bass, which will be a featured track in the composer’s debut album.

All works were written during the first pandemic lockdown in Germany in 2020 and are inspired by baroque music, the rhythms of eletronic dance music, and the techniques of beatboxing.

3Pirouetten Records Rainer Berger
Rainer Berger, Eftihia Arkoudis, and Daniela Mars, members of the 3Pirouetten ensemble, re-unite in Aremberg, Germany to record an album featuring the world premiere recordings of flute trio works written by German composer and flutist Rainer Berger. With the generous support of the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of Nordrhein-Westfalen, the ensemble will be recording Haus Kraut, Haus Bau, Pirouetten, Grotesque Burlesque, and Wasser Werk for flute, alto flute, and bass flute. All works were written during the first pandemic lockdown in Germany in 2020 and are inspired by baroque music, the rhythms of eletronic dance music, and the techniques of beatboxing.
During this time, 3Pirouetten will perform a number of concerts around the Nordrhein-Westfallen area to promote the album. Stay tuned for the exact schedule. Location: Junkerhaus-Eifel
SEMFA Featured Artist BETA Quartet
BETA Quartet performs virtually at the 2021 Southeast Michigan Flute Association Flute Ensemble Festival as one of the featured artists for this annual event. The group will present a selection of works from their sophomore album, such as “Umoja” by Valerie Coleman, “Flock” by Flutronix, “Little Suite of Mythological Beings” by Anze Rozman, “Payadora” by Julian Plaza, and “Constellations” by Kurton Harrisson III.
BETA Quartet Records “Tesserae”
BETA Quartet is preparing to record its second album titled “Tesserae” with Polyphony Records at Big Sky Recording Studio in Ann Arbor, Michigan, MI. Partially funded by the ensemble’s fundraiser campaign in 2019, the album will feature new works for flute quartet and quintet composed by Flutronix, Valerie Coleman, Anže Rozman, Daniel Baldwin, Julian Plaza (arr.Dmitryi Varelas), and Manuel Carranza. The group is delighted to have flutist Emily Bedard Dierickx perform as a guest and help fulfill the vision for this album.
